In 2005, Washington State enacted RCW 82.14.460 which allows counties to pass a 1/10th of 1% sales tax increase for mental health, substance abuse treatment services, and to support court treatment programs. County Commissioners have the authority to vote on and implement this sales tax increase and over half of Washington State counties have already implemented this tax. It is projected to raise about one million dollars per year for behavioral health in Kittitas County and would only add 10 cents of additional tax to a $100 purchase.
